Current Activity
for Winter 2011
November 30, 2011
Things are finally starting to slow down around the farm. Rain has brought waterway dirt work to a halt. We are starting to haul grain and work on shop projects.
Harvest was completed timely with above average soybean yields and much below average corn yields. Excessive rain early in the growing season had a greater negative effect on corn yield than the hot dry weather in July and August. Soybeans were able to withstand the hot weather and the later varieties benefited from late August and September rains.
Fall tillage is complete, as well as application of dry and anhydrous fertilizer. The dry weather allowed us to do some extra tillage were necessary and perform needed dirt work maintenance on waterways and ditches.
Plans are being made and potential is there for a great crop in 2012. Surely next year the weather will cooperate with timely fieldwork and great yields. Now you know whats on our Christmas list.
Merry Christmas! |
