Current Activity for Early Spring 2012

April 2012

Warm weather early this spring allowed us to quickly plant our 2012 corn crop. The corn planted the last week in March emerged quickly in 7 days; however the corn planted during the first week in April was slowed by cooler weather.

Fortunately, all our corn escaped significant damage damage from the frost in April. Early planting is always a gamble and we will not know the total impact of our decision until harvest. So far things look good, and will look excellent if we can get consistent day time temperatures in the mid 70's or above.

We intended to start planting soybeans the last week in April, however the forecast is cold and rainy. We will wait for warmer weather to plant our soybeans.

We are working on equipment maintenance and repair, so we are ready of for hay mowing and wheat cutting. The early spring has moved up the crop schedule by about a month. Looks like we might have time to enjoy some of our summer.
